Introduction / History

This people group lives in Sandaun Province in northwestern Papua New Guinea, south of the Sepik River between the Amto and Ama areas. They are associated with a very small and localized village setting in a remote inland borderland region shaped by forest, river systems, and difficult overland access. Their language is Siawi, also known as Musan, a Papuan language of the small Amto-Musan language family spoken along the Samaia River area.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Musan Siawi live in a remote inland environment where ordinary life is likely centered on a single small village and nearby subsistence land. In this part of Sandaun Province, communities are typically shaped by forest paths, river access, gardening, hunting, gathering, and close kinship ties rather than road networks or large market centers. Because Siawi is documented as a small language community in the Samaia River and Upper Sepik hinterland, their daily life is best understood as village-based, with family and clan obligations strongly shaping work, food gathering, and local relationships. Their language in ordinary life is Siawi, also called Musan.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Musan Siawi are identified primarily with traditional ethnic religion. Scripture is available in their language.

What Are Their Needs?

The Musan Siawi need a clear and enduring gospel witness that reaches beyond occasional contact and leads to real repentance and faith in Christ. Because some Christian presence is reported but traditional religion remains dominant, they need spiritually mature believers who can clearly explain the gospel, patiently disciple new converts, and help establish biblically grounded fellowships. In a very small and isolated community, they need faithful local leaders, strong Christian homes, and an enduring witness that will not fade after brief outside contact. They also need the Lord to protect any emerging believers from fear, compromise, and pressure to return to older spiritual loyalties.

Prayer Items

Pray that the Lord would send faithful gospel workers to the Musan Siawi with humility, courage, and endurance.
Pray that the Musan Siawi would clearly hear and understand the good news of Jesus Christ and turn from spiritual darkness to the living God.
Pray for genuine believers among them to be strengthened in biblical truth and steadfast faith.
Pray that the Lord would raise up trustworthy local leaders and Christ-centered families among the Musan Siawi.
Pray for an enduring Christian witness among the Musan Siawi that will remain fruitful across future generations.
